LA VERNE, Calif. - The La Verne women's soccer team hosted Youth Night in honor of new ULV President Mahdavi's Leap into Action Pledge when they welcomed the Occidental Tigers to Ortmayer Stadium today for a SCIAC showdown that ultimately ended in a 1-1 tie.
The Canyon Hills Soccer Association and Legends FC were both recognized during pregame ceremonies. The pledge helps extend the universities core values, collective impact and commitment to bridging educational excellence and innovation within the region and beyond.
The Leopards took an early lead within the first five minutes of the game, courtesy of freshman defender Maren Handel who scored her first goal of the season.
Occidental forward Mia Steadman tied the score in the 35th minute with her sixth goal of the season off a penalty kick resulting from a yellow card called on La Verne defender, Shelbie Mueller.
Despite a hard fought game and nine shot attempts, neither one of the big cat teams could score a goal in the second half, making first half 1-1 tie official.
UP NEXT: The Leopards will continue SCIAC play this Wednesday, October 4th at home in Ortmayer Stadium against the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athenas at 7pm.
