Macedo Keeps Oxy Scoreless, Leopards Draw with Tigers

LA VERNE, CA – On Saturday night, the University of La Verne women's soccer team held Occidental College to a 0-0 draw in a defensive battle at Ortmayer Stadium.

La Verne demonstrated strong control with a slight edge in shots, leading the Tigers 14-11. The defense was a key component in this match-up, consistently impeding Occidental's attempts and keeping the game scoreless. La Verne's backline displayed exceptional organization and resilience, preventing the Tigers from capitalizing on any offensive advances.

Senior goalkeeper Abigail Macedo played a standout role, grabbing four key saves that held Occidental at bay. In the 79th minute, she made a critical close-range save near the middle of the box but couldn't fully secure the ball as it bounced loose. Sensing the danger, freshman Jordan Moody quickly sprinted in and laid out to block the immediate follow-up shot, successfully denying Occidental's scoring threat.

In the game's final 40 seconds, Occidental launched a last-minute attack, firing a shot that Macedo blocked as she dropped to her knees. When the ball slipped free, junior defender Kylie Klein quickly stepped in. She backed up Macedo, swiftly clearing the ball away from the goal, averting the scoring threat, and securing the Leopards' shutout. This crucial defensive play underscored the team's commitment to closing out the game strong.

Occidental's Melanie Rodriguez matched Macedo with four saves of her own. Despite creating multiple scoring chances, neither team managed to find the back of the net.

Despite the Leopards' efforts, the tie ultimately ends their chances for a SCIAC postseason appearance this year. La Verne's overall record moves to 6-7-5 and 3-5-3 in conference play.

The Leopards will finish their season against Caltech at home next Saturday, November 2 at 7 p.m.
