Leopards Take Down Westminster, 85-75

LA VERNE, CA Dahmaj Warren finished with a double-double leading the University of La Verne men's basketball team to an 85-75 victory on Monday afternoon against the Westminster Blue Jays.

Top Performances

Warren led the Leopards with 27 points and 15 rebounds on the way to his second double-double of the season. At the end of the afternoon, the senior made six of seven free throws while also levying three assists, one steal, and one block.

Logen Howard scored 22 points, led La Verne with five steals, and blocked one shot. Teammate Paul Antonis led with five assists and scored 11 points with four steals. Junior Cody Aquino also scored 11 points with three rebounds. 

How It Happened

After a mostly even first half, the Leopards rallied to a 10-point lead with 3:22 left after a three-point shot by Howard. The make sparked an 11-0 run to end the half with the Leopards taking an 18-point, 42-24 lead at the break.

The Leopards started the second half strong with another three by Howard to take a 21-point lead, their largest of the game. The Blue Jays tried to crawl back but La Verne held on for a 10-point win.

The Leopards made a season-high 41 percent of their three-pointers and shot 46 percent from the field, their second-best shooting performance of the season. The Leopards excelled in transition, scoring 21 points on fast breaks.

La Verne improved to 3-5 overall and the Blue Jays fell to 0-9.

Next game

The Leopards head to Texas next where they will face the East Texas Baptist University Tigers on January 3, at 5:30 p.m. (PST).
