Softball Battles but Falls in 10 Innings at CMS

CLAREMONT, CA — The University of La Verne was scheduled to finish the series of three games in a double-header Sunday afternoon. The Leopards fell 4-3 in a ten inning battle against the Athenas in the first game, and the second was suspended due to lighting in the area.

The Leopards took a 2-0 lead in the first after Ashley Rodriguez hit a sacrifice fly to left that scored Syney Diazs, and  Cassandra Zapata singled to left center to plate Taylor Gray

La Verne held onto a 2-1 lead entering the seventh when CMS tied the game in the seventh inning after a mishandled bunt allowed the runner from third to score. Junior Alyssa Campbell doubled to left field to give the Leopards a 3-2 in the eighth inning but Athenas answered with an RBI double in the bottom half of the inning..

After nine innings the game went to the international tiebreaker rule, when a runner starts on second base to begin the inning. La Verne could not get the runner home in their at-bat. CMS pinch hitter Delaney Pratt player hero for the Athenas with an RBI fielder's choice to end the game.

The Leopards move to 6-13 overall and 1-4 in the SCIAC.
