Senior Leaders Shine Despite Tough Loss to Pomona-Pitzer

CLAREMONT, CA — The University of La Verne Men's Basketball team faced a challenging SCIAC conference matchup against Pomona-Pitzer at Voelkel Gymnasium, ultimately falling 80-66.

The Leopards' senior leaders showcased their determination, with standout performances across the board. Senior guard Dahmaj Warren led the way, scoring a game-high 30 points and grabbing eight rebounds. Warren is averaging 26.2 points per game and entered the contest ranked third in points per game in NCAA Division III. Paul Antonis added 18 points, hitting four shots from beyond the arc. Joshua Rook also contributed significantly, pulling down seven rebounds and tallying two steals, providing a strong defensive presence. Logen Howard added six points and four boards, emphasizing the seniors' pivotal roles.

Pomona-Pitzer relied on efficient shooting, finishing 50.8% from the field and 47.8% from three-point range. Joe Cookson paced the Sagehens with 23 points and eight rebounds, and Ty Bergman added a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds.

The Leopards kept the contest competitive in the first half, trailing by only six at the break. However, the Sagehens' second-half surge and La Verne's struggles with turnovers made a comeback difficult.

La Verne, now 5-9 overall and 0-5 in SCIAC play, will seek to turn their fortunes around as they host Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Monday, January 20th, at 7 PM in the Tents.
