LA VERNE, CA – The University of La Verne women's soccer team fought hard against the well-established Cal Lutheran, but fell just short in a 2-1 finish after the Regals scored in the final seconds.
After a scoreless first half, the Regals got on the board with a penalty kick in the 70th minute. Standout freshman
Linda Prudencio-Mata changed the tide of the game with under ten minutes to play., The forward from Chino lined up perfectly off an assist from
Sofia Chiovare and headed the ball low and fast past Cal Lutheran's goalie, tying the match up to 1-1.
But the Regals found the back of the net late, scoring a late goal with just 18 seconds remaining on the clock.
Katy Beck notched double-digit saves in back-to-back games, matching a career high 11 stops.
The Leopards play on the road at Whittier College on Wednesday, October 22 at 4 p.m.
