Beck Tallies Career-High 12 Saves as Leopards Battle UC Santa Cruz

SANTA CRUZ, CA - The University of La Verne women's soccer team battled through a tough non-conference matchup on Saturday afternoon, falling 2-0 to UC Santa Cruz at Lower East Field. Despite an early two-goal deficit, the Leopards showed grit throughout the match, led by a standout performance from goalkeeper Katy Beck, who recorded 12 saves to keep La Verne in contention.

The Banana Slugs jumped ahead early, scoring twice within the opening eight minutes. UC Santa Cruz's Cadence Fisher struck first in the 5th minute off a feed from Sydney Boyd, then added another just two minutes later with help from Cassidy Segrell. From there, the La Verne defense tightened up, denying several quality looks and holding the Slugs scoreless for the remaining 82 minutes.

The match showcased La Verne's defensive resilience and Beck's steady command in goal, as she faced 18 total shots and anchored a back line that held firm after the opening minutes.

Up next, the Leopards return home to Ortmayer Stadium on Wednesday, October 29 at 7 p.m., hosting Redlands in their final home match of the regular season. La Verne will look to regroup, leaning on the effort and energy they displayed in the second half against UC Santa Cruz.
