Five Leopards Named to Men's Soccer All-SCIAC Team

LA VERNE, CA — Five Leopards have been named to the 2025 Men's Soccer All-SCIAC team, the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced Tuesday.

Hector Duenas-Pena and Joshua McCowan picked up first team honors, and Alexander Bastidas, Kevin Arreola, and Diego Soto picked up second team accolades. The five selections tie Occidental for the most All-SCIAC honors this season.

Senior Duenas-Pena had a career season between the posts. The Moreno Valley native earned three SCIAC Defensive Athlete of the Week awards and led the SCIAC with eight shutouts, 82 saves, and a .929 goals against average. He also ranked second with 4.82 saves per game.

McCowan led the Leopards' backline and frustrated opponents' attacks all season. La Verne allowed the third fewest goals in the conference, in part thanks to McCown's aggressive play. He also scored a key goal in a 3-2 win at Caltech.

Bastidas scored three times and added two assists for the Leopards. The former Cathedral Phantom scored two game-winners this season, one in a 2-0 win over Park and the other in a must-win game against Whittier on the final day of the regular season.

Arreola started in all 16 games he played this season, scoring three times with one assist. He found the back of the net in a big 2-1 showdown at CMS to help send La Verne home with a win.

Soto led the Leopards with four goals and nine points this season in 16 starts. He netted the game-winner at Occidental for a crucial road win. The junior scored a brace in a 4-1 victory against Cal Lutheran.
