MONTEREY PARK, CA — The University of La Verne men's and women's swim and dive teams wrapped up the 2024-25 season by posting numerous lifetime bests at the SCIAC Championships.
"I am so proud of this group of student-athletes. They really stepped up this weekend and performed amazingly. We had more top-25 finishes than last year. Not only did we have lifetime best in all 4-7 events that they swam but they had much larger improvements than in the past. The swimmers' support and commitment to each other was the key to our success. I want to thank all our supporters who came out to ELAC to cheer us on," said La Verne Swim and Dive Head Coach Pat Skehan.
Keilani Greer led the way with personal bests in all events she competed in. In the consolation finals of the 200-yard butterfly, Greer finished with a time of 2:16.29 to take fifth in the heat and 13th overall. She also added personal bests in the 100 butterfly (1:00.84) and the 200 individual medley (2:17.77).
Senior Lindsey Habegger shined in her final meet as a Leopard. She added personal records in the 50 freestyle (26.26) and 100 freestyle (56.02). Fellow seniors Demetre Figueroa and Nathan West both added lifetime achievements. Figueroa finished with a time of 5:27.53 in the 500 freestyle and in the sprints West ended with a time of 23.55 in the 50 freestyle.
Neve Dagdagan, Dylan Sovine, Marisol Varela, Kelly Long, Jedida Alvarez, and Josh Jaruegui posted two-lifetime bests apiece. Dagdagan had bests in the 50 freestyle (26.16) and 200 backstroke (2:18.02). Sovine added personal records in the 200 individual medley (2:07.18) and 200 backstroke (2:08.11). Varela finished with top individual times in the 50 freestyle (28.87) and 100 freestyle (1:06.77). Long added personal bests in the 500 freestyle (5:39.39) and 200 breaststroke (2:41.92). Alvarez finished with individual records in the 50 freestyle (27.04) and 200 breaststroke (2:38.35). Jaruegui ended with top personal times in the 200 individual medley (2:03.47) and 200 backstroke (2:03.03).
Lily Florez (100 freestyle, 59.20), Gabe Graceffa (100 freestyle, 49.60), Nico Eustaquio (200 individual medley, 2:17.58), and Shaun Concepcion (3-meter dive, 215 points) all added lifetime bests.
The Leopards' relay teams also improved by an average of more than five seconds and by as much as 13 seconds.
