THOUSAND OAKS, CA — Karl Ashley and
Cody Aquino both scored career highs but the University of La Verne men's basketball team couldn't hold off a strong second half from Cal Lutheran, falling on the road 87-66.
Ashley had another impressive game after scoring 15 points last time out, leading the Leopards with 19 points. Aquino finished in double figures for the third game in a row, put up 18 points, and added five rebounds. Joshua Rook contributed six points and nine rebounds. Ryan Lin also stole eight rebounds.
The Leopards made an impressive 43% of field goals in the first half of the game and Cal Lutheran went into halftime with a slim 39-37 lead. However, the Kingsmen rallied in the second half, outscoring La Verne 48-29 to bring the final score to 87-66.
Cal Lutheran was led by Devon Lewis, who scored 21 points. Ze'ev Remer and Taj Regans both added 13 points while Tommy Griffitts stole 17 rebounds.
The Leopards (6-13, 1-9 SCIAC) will look to bounce back against the Occidental College Tigers this Saturday at 4 p.m. in Los Angeles.
