LA VERNE, CA - The University of La Verne women's basketball team came up short against the visiting Hardin-Simmons Cowgirls, losing 70-47 in a non-conference matchup on Sunday afternoon.

Alyssa Smith had another standout performance for La Verne, finishing with 15 points, seven rebounds, one block, and one assist, Maya Sanborn added another solid performance to her young career, scoring 10 points, collecting four rebounds, one block and one assist. Jayda Felix recorded four points, six rebounds and three assists.

The Leopards struggled against the 13-3 Cowgirls, who converted 18 points off turnovers. Trailing 38-22 at halftime, La Verne came out strong in the third quarter, outscoring the Cowgirls 17-11, but were unable to maintain momentum in the final frame, where they were outpaced 20-8.

La Verne (4-10 overall, 0-5 SCIAC) will return to SCIAC play this upcoming Wednesday, January 21st against the Caltech Beavers at 7 PM in The Tents.
