ORANGE, CA — The University of La Verne women's basketball team lost 57-56 to Chapman University Saturday evening despite a season high in points for junior forward Alyssa Smith.
Smith once again led the Leopards in both points with 26 as well as rebounds with 17. She shot five of nine from three point range and secured four assists in her dominant performance. The Leos also got some additional offensive production from Jasmine Prajitno who nailed three threes and Isabella Gray-Musolff who had eight points, two boards, and an assist.
The first half was a back and forth affair with both sides trading buckets all the way through the first quarter. The Panthers went on a quick eight to nothing run late in the half to take a 13 point lead into the locker room.
The third quarter was all La Verne as they outscored Chapman 20-7. Some key deep shooting allowed the Leopards to rip off 12 straight points in just over three minutes to tie the game at 39. Despite hanging with Chapman, the Leos fell one point short in the fourth, and dropped a tough loss on the road.
Up next, the Leos will head to Pasadena to take on Caltech on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
