LA VERNE, CA – Newcomer Brooke Petretti hit the Leopards' first home run of the season. The Leos defeated the Tigers 4-1 in their SCIAC opener. 

The freshman shortstop homered to left field in her second at bat in the bottom of the third to score Janelle Vega and Allie Colenzo, extending their lead 4-0. She finished the day with two runs and a walk. Her first run came in the second inning, scoring off a single from Ava Chacon. 

Briana Vasquez picked up her second win of the season in the circle for the Leopards.The sophomore from Los Angeles pitched five innings, allowed only one hit and zero walks. Jaidynn Alvarez pitched the final two innings, striking out one and giving up one hit. 

Occidental scored their lone run in the sixth inning off a single from second baseman Sophia Siu that scored Anna Kim. 

The Leopards improved to 4-5 overall and 1-0 in the SCIAC, while Occidental dropped to 0-4. The Leos are back in action on Saturday, February 28 at 12:00 pm away at Occidental College for a doubleheader.
