La Verne Softball Secures No. 3 Seed in SCIAC Tournament

LA VERNE, CA – The Leopards fell to the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athenas in the finale of their regular season play, but not before clinching third place in the SCIAC, the first time they have seen post-season play since 2022.

La Verne tied with Whittier College for third place, but clinched the No. 3 seed in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament definitively by winning their series against the Poets. University of La Verne Head Coach Danielle Kaminaka took the helm at La Verne in August of 2024, and her speedy success is both impressive and appreciated by Leo fans.

The Leopards will play No. 2 seed Chapman University at the University of Redlands at 1 p.m. this coming Friday, May 8. All SCIAC tournament games will be played at the University of Redlands, the top seed in the tournament.

Kylee Knight led the Leopards with three hits in the doubleheader. Janelle Vega and Mikayla Galaviz finished with two RBIs apiece. Annica Luna hit a triple, and Allie Colenzo and Vega each finished with a double.

Freshman Alyssa Tafolla finished the day with three strikeouts in relief efforts in both games.
