Leopards Battle in 1-0 Loss to CLU

LA VERNE, CA — The University of La Verne women's soccer team battled but lost a close, 1-0 match to the Cal Lutheran Regals Saturday night.

The Leopards had a corner kick opportunity and shots from Jessica Figueroa and Megan Sewell midway through the half, but the Regals' defense stopped both attempts.

The Regals kept pressure on La Verne's defense in the opening half, with four shots and two corners, and broke through with under five minutes left in the period on a Payton Hahnn goal from 25 yards out.

The physicality continued in the second half. The Leopards' backline met the Regals' attack with disciplined aggression, holding Cal Lutheran to just four second-half shots.

Lex Sahagian fired two shots in the second half, missing one high and forcing Regals' keeper Kira Kasarda to save another. Kailey Kolesar forced another Kasarda save five minutes later.

The Leopards move to 1-5-2 overall and will be on the road facing Whittier College on Wednesday, September 30 at 5 p.m.
