LA VERNE, CA — Ashley Rodriguez, Chiara Brown, and Jay Alvarado Wing have been named SCIAC Athletes of the Week, the Southern California Intercollegiate Conference announced Tuesday.

Rodriguez earned Softball Hitter of the Week after an outstanding opening day for the La Verne softball team. She finished 4-7 at the plate with a pair of doubles, two RBIs, two runs, and one stolen base. Defensively in centerfield, she made a spectacular diving catch in game one to save a pair of runs and another great hustle catch in the day's final game. Rodriguez made her biggest impact in the Leopards' 7-5 win over Whitworth, finishing with two RBIs, two runs, and a stolen base.

Alvarado Wing picked up Men's Golf Athlete of the Week honors after a spectacular start to the spring season for La Verne, leading the Leopards to a first-place finish in the Leopard Spring Invitational and taking first individually. Alvarado scored a -3, 137 on the par 70 course. He shot a 68 to open the tournament and closed out with a 69 on day two. The Leopards finished with a score of 579, ahead of second place Cal Lutheran (586), third place George Fox took third (587), and fourth place Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (589).

Brown was tabbed Women's Basketball Offensive Athlete of the Week for the second time this season after an incredible final two games of the regular season, leading La Verne to back-to-back SCIAC Regular Season Championships. In an 81-64 win over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, she led the Leopards with 25 points and 11 rebounds and earned her 14th double-double of the season. In a 91-76 win over Chapman, Brown scored a game-high 23 points, grabbed seven rebounds, dished three assists, blocked two shots, and added two steals.
