Leopards Rewrite Top-10 Lists in Arizona

FLAGSTAFF, AZ — The University of La Verne men's and women's track and field teams opened the 2024 indoor season at the Ron Mann Invite hosted at Northern Arizona University, posting several program top-10 performances.

"We had a solid day to kick off the season indoors in Flagstaff. With more than six inches of new snow on the ground, we headed to the NAU Walk Up Skydome and rewrote the La Verne All-Time Top Performance List," said head coach Kevin Reid.

Sophomore Tyler Thomas set a new La Verne record in the 60m with two personal records. He ran 6.90 in the prelims and set the new program mark at 6.88 in the final. He followed that performance with another PR of 21.72 in the 200m, the second fastest time in La Verne history. Both marks place him in NCAA qualifying position.

The Leopards performed especially well in the 60m, posting four new program top 10 times across the men's and women's races. Hunter Bond, Russel Maxie, and Dawson Bell each added their names to the La Verne record books.

Zachary Reid nearly broke his record in the 60m high hurdles with a time of 8.33, just shy of his 8.27 mark set two seasons ago.

Ivan Estrada and Austin Haines etched their names in the La Verne record books in the 200m.

Marissa Hehir and Jazzlyn Johnson each posted top-ten times in the 800m and 60m hurdles, respectively.

Joshua Collier made his way into the top-ten list in both the 60m high hurdles and the 400m.

LaVaughan Smooth finished with a time of 22.98 in the 200m, and Emily Hernandez ran 8.88 in the 60m, both just missing the all-time list.

Roberto Reynoso won his heat in the mile with a time of 4:46.45.

"It was a great weekend for ULV Track & Field, and we are in a good place going into a big meet at Wisconsin-Whitewater next weekend. For many, this was their first experience with running indoors, and they all competed very well."
