LaRue, Brown Lead Leopards on Day 1 of SCIAC Championships

REDLANDS, CA — Ryleigh LaRue and Harrison Brown led the University of La Verne track and field teams with top times in the prelims on day one of the SCIAC Championships.

LaRue finished with the fastest time in the 800m prelims with a time of 2:19.69. Zyeir Lasley-Shabete qualified for the finals in the men's 800m with a time of 1:58.34 in the prelims.

Brown advances to the finals in both hurdle events. He posted the top time in the 400m hurdles, setting a personal record of 55.92. He moves on to the finals of the 110m hurdles after taking fourth in the prelims with a time of 15.64.

In the distance events, Finn McClure secured a spot in Saturday's final in the 1500m.

In the finals of the field events, Journee Jones led the Leopards with a fifth-place finish in the hammer throw at 42.53m (139' 6").

Alec Maxwell took sixth in the finals of the pole vault with a mark of 4.27m (14' 0"). In the javelin, Hunter Bond finished in eighth with a distance of 43.76m (143' 7").

Deon Jordan led La Verne in the jumps with a sixth-place finish in the long jump with a distance of 6.60m (21' 8").

In the combined events, Bond sits in second place through five events with 3395 points in the decathlon. In the heptathlon, Caydance Hook is in seventh place with 1598 points through four events.
