LOS ANGELES — The University of La Verne Track and Field teams opened up SCIAC competition Saturday afternoon at SCIAC No. 1 hosted at Occidental College.
Tyler Thomas led the men's team with a pair of wins. Thomas took first in the 100m dash (10.89) and the 200m dash (22.20) to highlight the meet for the Leopards. He also added a second-place finish in the high jump with a final mark of 1.60m (5-03.00).
Thomas also ran a leg of the men's 4x100 relay that took second with a time of 42.45.
Dawson Bell led the women's squad with two second-place finishes in the sprints. She posted a time of 12.78 in the 100m and 26.84 in the 200m. Bell helped the women's 4x100 relay team take second with a time of 54.02.
Freshman Marissa Hehir took 10 seconds of her previous best in the 1500m to place third and move to No. 4 on the La Verne All Time list with a time of (4:44.56).
Senior Joshua Collier, who participated at the 2023 NCAA meet in the 400m Hurdles, started his 2024 campaign with a second place finish and time of 55.24, faster than he opened up in 2023.
In the field events, Alexandra Boutte (hammer and shot put), Hunter Bond (javelin and discus), and Emily Hernandez (javelin) all posted personal records.

"Everything considered it was a solid day for the Leopards. Several athletes didn't competing or were competing in "off" events, the remainder of the season looks positive," said La Verne track and field head coach Kevin Reid.
Next Meet
The Leopard distance runners return to Eagle Rock on Saturday, March 9 to compete in the will participate in the Occidental Distance Carnival and Spring Break Classic next weekend. The speed/power will take the next two week off before getting back on the track on Friday, March 22 at Cal State San Marcos.
