CLAREMONT, CA — The University of La Verne track and field teams returned to action on Saturday at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational and posted no less than 44 personal or season bests.
"It was a good, solid weekend for us. After a couple of weeks of bad weather and conditions, it was great to have a day of So Cal sunshine to compete in. I was proud of how we finished and we're motivated for the championship portion of the season coming up on the schedule in the coming weeks," said La Verne track and field head coach Kevin Reid.
Dawson Bell posted personal records in both the 100m (12.38) and 200m (26.04). Her time in the 100m is a La Verne Top-10 mark.
Jazzlyn Johnson added a big seasonal best in the 100m hurdles at 15.84.
Johnson, Bell, Eriell Duckworth, and Emily Hernandez combined to run a season-best in the 4x100m relay (52.44).
Madison Xie added a personal best in the discus with a throw of 102-08 (31.30m). Hernandez added another PR in the javelin with a mark of 80-10 (24.65m).
On the men's side, Ivan Estrada highlighted the meet with big personal records in the 200m and 400m. He broke the 22-second mark in the 200m (21.98) and the 50-second mark in the 400m (49.77).
Fernando Cortez, Jared Albaugh, Roberto Reynoso, and Andres Flores-Marquez added season-best times in the 800m and 1500m.
Hunter Bond added a pair of season bests in the discus (110-09) and javelin (125-07).
In the sprints, Davion Fields and Gabriel Candalario added bests in the 100m and 200m dashes.
