Aguilera Takes 9th, Gonzales Sinks Hole-In-One at SCIAC No. 1

VENTURA, CA — Alexis Aguilera posted a top-10 finish and Mia Gonzales made a hole-in-one to highlight the La Verne women's golf showing at SCIAC No. 1.

Aguilera finished ninth overall, the best finish for a La Verne women's golfer at at SCIAC event. The junior opened with a strong first round with two birdies to end +3. She added three birdies in round three to finish the tournament at +8.

Gonzalez added her lifetime achievement on the fifth hole of round two. She bounced the shot just a few feet away and the ball rounded in to sink the hole-in-one. on the 132-yard hole. The freshman finished her SCIAC debut in 28th place.

Taylor Ward finished one spot back in 29th, shooting a consistent 84 in both rounds. Daniela Soto improved by four strokes in round two and Hayley Kucera saved off six strokes in round two.

"SCIAC was our first event of the spring season. We had some goals in mind and we were able to reach some of them. It doesn't show on the leaderboard but we are definitely on the right path. I'm proud of Alexis for finishing 9th place. In Round 1 she tied her personal best. The whole team was excited for Mia and her first hole-in-one, even more, stoked her dad got a full video of it," said La Verne Head Golf Coach Nathalie da Silva.

The Leopards compete next at the Willamette Invitational in Salem, Oregon, on March 14.
