SAN DIEGO —
The University of La Verne track and field teams delivered an impressive showing over the weekend, recording a total of 36 personal best performances, 13 on the women's side and 23 on the men's side. Competing across two days in varying weather conditions, the Leopards battled through rain on Friday before capitalizing on sunny conditions Saturday to achieve standout results.

Friday, March 14 – Chula Vista Olympic Training Center

The weekend began with the Hammer and Javelin competitions at the Chula Vista Olympic Training Center. Despite persistent wind and rain, the Leo throwers put together a solid day of performances. Madison Xie led the way with a personal-best mark of 29.95m in the Hammer Throw, while the rest of the throwers demonstrated consistency in challenging conditions.

Saturday, March 15 – Point Loma Nazarene Invitational

With clear skies and favorable conditions on the cliffs of the Point Loma campus, the Leopards continued their momentum. Among the day's top performances, Peyton Carrera made a breakthrough in the 1500m, shaving 27 seconds off her previous best to break the five-minute barrier for the first time, clocking in at 4:59.89.

Reigning SCIAC Track Athlete of the Week Zachary Reid posted a season-best time (14.69) to win the 110m high hurdles, further improving his NCAA Division III-leading performance. Freshman Harrison Brown took eighth in the hurdles with a personal best time (15.60).

In the men's distance events, Finn McClure delivered a standout performance in the 5000m, finishing in 15:01.65—placing him fifth on ULV's all-time performance list and taking third in the event. In the same race, Fernando Cortez (15:17.25) finished sixth with a personal record time.

In the 3000m steeplechase, Aaron Schwarz finished ninth with a new best time (11:51.11?). Isaac Stockton ran a personal best in the 1500m (4:04.05?) to take tenth.

Next Meet

The Leopards will be back in action at two venues this week. The team will first be represented at the Jim Klein Invitational Decathlon, taking place Thursday and Friday, March 20-21, at Westmont College in Santa Barbara.
Following the decathlon, the Leopards will shift focus to the UC Riverside Spring Break Classic, where they will compete against a strong field at UC Riverside.
