Reid, Bond Make Big Improvements at APU

AZUSA, CA — Zachary Reid ran a season-best time, Hunter Bond posted a personal record, and a handful of athletes from the University of La Verne track and field teams competed at the Azusa Pacific University Franson Last Chance and Multis.

Reid made a big jump up the NCAA Division III qualifying list, running a 14.23 in the 110m hurdles and now sits at 14th nationally. The time sets him up for his fourth NCAA appearance.

Bond ran a big personal best over 400m, 49.48, to set himself up for the Redlands Final Qualifier decathlon this week.

LaVaughn Smooth finished with a 10.82 in the 100m dash and 22.84 in the 200m dash. Emmanuel Nwagbo followed with a 23.36 in the 200m. Ashley Kodama posted a 2:26.83 in the 800m run, and David Ramirez ran 50.90 in the 400m dash.

Terrell James finished top among D3 athletes in the discus, throwing 56.09m. Michael Benschop added a distance of 34.27m. James added a mark of 45.85m in the hammer. Journee Jones threw 35.27 in the women's hammer, and Benscholp added a 36.76. Emily Hernandez ended at 30.64m in the javelin.

Gennessy Ortega jumped 5.11m in the long jump.

Next Meet

The Leopards compete next at the Redlands Final Qualifier on Wednesday, May 14 and Thursday, May 15.
