No. 11 Leopards Set to Host SCIAC Tournament

LA VERNE, CA The University of La Verne baseball team is set to host the 2025 SCIAC Baseball Postseason Tournament.

The Leopards earned the No.1 Seed and home-field advantage after claiming their third straight SCIAC Regular Season Championships last Saturday. La Verne will also be the home team for all games they play this weekend. 

La Verne enters the tournament ranked No. 11 by D3baseball.com and No. 8 by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA). The Leopards open up the double-elimination tournament on Thursday at 3 p.m. against the winner of No. 5 seed University of Redlands and No. 4 seed and No. 23/20 nationally ranked California Lutheran University. Redlands and Cal Lutheran face off on Wednesday at 3 p.m. in Thousand Oaks.

Tickets can be purchased online or in advance for $10. Anyone with a SCIAC institution ID and children under 12 are free. A new ticket is required each day of the tournament.

The Leopards are led by key pitchers Ethan Galindo with a 2.51 ERA and Matthew DesMarets with a 3.27 ERA. At the plate, La Verne looks too Ryan Vosika, who leads the Leopards with a .462 batting average, Noah Garcia who's driven in  40 RBI's, and Benny Vogel who's hitting .400Jason Givens with 28 RBIs and 29 hits and Matt Rice with a .404 batting average will also look to make a impact.

La Verne's 31-8 overall record equates to its highest winning percentage in 30 years, since the 1995 squad finished 39-9 and won the NCAA Division III National Championship. The Leopards have posted 30 wins four years in a row, the first time they have achieved the mark in school history. It is also the Leopards' first championship three-peat since 1985–1987.

The Leopards won 16 straight games earlier this season, the longest winning streak in school history, surpassing the previous best 15 also set by the 1995 championship squad.

Head Coach Scott Winterburn leads the Leopards in his 25th season at the helm. This season, he surpassed 600 career wins, 582 at La Verne.
