LA VERNE, CA — The University of La Verne football team (2-1) takes on CMS (3-1) this Saturday at Ortmayer, with kickoff set for 1 P.M. The Leopards are coming off a loss against Pomona-Pitzer and are hoping their first home game in over a month can get them back on track.

LAST TIME OUT

La Verne dropped their second game of the season last Saturday by a final score of 24-6, despite a monster performance from Jimmy Rumsey. The senior wideout hauled in nine catches for 104 yards and a touchdown. La Verne's defense was led by Jomar Brown and Brooklyn Pasten, who each recorded a team-high 8 total tackles. Kaleb Harrison followed with 7 takedowns, while Brak Hill and Salvatore Felice each contributed 6 tackles. Devin Martin added 5 tackles and also made the team's only interception. Brak Hill was particularly impactful in the backfield, recording 2.0 TFLs and forcing a fumble.

THE MATCHUP

The Stags enter the matchup coming off a 24-22 victory over Cal Lutheran, and are winners of back-to-back SCIAC games. CMS has a pass-first offense, averaging 233 air yards compared to 75 rush yards per game. Defensively, the Stags have been susceptible to giving up quality rushing performances, which plays into La Verne's offensive game plan. Leopard running back Tyler McCown leads all of SCIAC in rushing yards with 454. Quarterback Jordan Hernandez is also 12th on that list, adding another level to the offense.

SERIES HISTORY

Overall, the Leopards are 3-10 against the Stags since 2013, with the most recent matchup resulting in a 5-0 La Verne loss in a muddy November meeting last year.
