LA VERNE, CA — The University of La Verne football team (2-1) takes on Pomona-Pitzer (1-2) this Saturday on the road at 7 P.M. The Leopards are coming off a hard fought loss against the Chapman Panthers, and are looking for their first conference win of the year.
LAST TIME OUT
La Verne dropped their first game of the season last Saturday, 35-10, despite leading late in the second quarter. Tyler McCown recorded 131 all-purpose yards, leading the offense in both rushing and receiving. Senior QB Brian Rudden also had 40 rushing yards, including a touchdown carry of 30 yards. Defensively, Brooklyn Pasten led La Verne with eight tackles, while Chase Yanez and Devin Martin each added six tackles. Martin also recorded a tackle for loss, while Dylan Reiner and Andres Viernes contributed tackles behind the line of scrimmage. Justin Mondini added four takedowns and a pass breakup.
THE MATCHUP
The Sagehens enter the matchup after a 22-10 loss to CMS in the Sixth Street Rivalry. Pomona-Pitzer has a balanced offensive attack, averaging 118 rush yards and 232 pass yards per game. The Leopards' offense will look to gash a defense that has been stout against the run, with opponents averaging 60 ground yards per contest. QB duo Jordan Hernandez and Brian Rudden will look to step up and use the air attack against a team that has been susceptible to big passing plays.
