Smith Named SCIAC Athlete of the Week

LA VERNE, CA — Alyssa Smith has been tabbed the SCIAC Women's Basketball Defensive Athlete of the Week the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced Monday.

Smith put together another outstanding week on both ends of the floor for the Leopards, recording her 10th and 11th double-doubles of the season. In a 64-56 upset win over first-place Cal Lutheran, the junior finished with 18 points, 13 defensive rebounds, 15 total rebounds, and three assists. In the next game at Chapman, she scored a season-high 26 points and recorded 17 rebounds, 14 defensive rebounds, four assists, and one steal.

Smith has been dominant this season and ranks near the top in the SCIAC in multiple categories. She leads the conference in points per game (16.7), total points (367), and total rebounds (235), and she ranks second in rebounds per game (10.7). She additionally ranks in the top-10 in field goal percentage, free throw percentage, three-pointers, and assists.
