LA VERNE, CA — Nicolo Buono has been named SCIAC Men's Water Polo Offensive Athlete of the Week the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced Monday.

Buono scored a career-high six goals to lead the La Verne men's water polo team to a 15-14 overtime win at Occidental. The sophomore scored two goals in the fourth quarter to help the Leopards erase a three-goal deficit and scored again in overtime to set up La Verne's win. Buono added two drawn exclusions.

Buono is the second member of the men's water polo team to earn SCIAC Athlete of the Week honors this season. Goalie Eric Bates earned the honor after grabbing 35 saves at the Inland Empire Tournament.
