LA VERNE, CA — Two standout players from the University of La Verne men's soccer team,
Adan Villarreal and
Oscar Mendoza earned All-SCIAC honors, as announced by the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference on Wednesday.
Villarreal received First Team All-SCIAC recognition after an impressive season, leading the Leopards with 10 goals. The junior forward from Pico Rivera consistently made an impact on offense, with key goals that kept La Verne competitive throughout the season. This honor builds on his achievements from 2023 when he was named Second Team All-SCIAC. His growth and dynamic play this year earned him the conference's highest recognition, stating his importance to the team's success.
Graduate student defender Mendoza joined Villarreal in receiving All-SCIAC honors, earning a spot on the Second Team. As his career at La Verne now comes to an end following this season, Mendoza was a cornerstone of La Verne's defense, skillfully countering attacks and reinforcing the team's backline in crucial moments. Starting 13 of the 14 games he played, Mendoza's leadership and experience provided stability and resilience, proving invaluable to the Leopards' defensive efforts this season.
"I am really excited and happy for both Adan and Oscar to get recognized, again by the conference for their dedication, commitment, and hard work. I felt we had another player who also should've been recognized, however, having multiple players receive this award means a lot. Both Adan and Oscar are not only really great players but great people too. The honor is well deserved," said University of La Verne men's soccer head coach
Trevor Persson.
