Carrera, Cortez Lead Leopards at UCSD

LA JOLLA, CA — Peyton Carrera and Fernando Cortez led the Leopards with big doubles as the University of La Verne track and field squads competed at the UC San Diego Triton Invitational.

Carrera notched two big personal bests in the 800m (2:19.42) and 1500m (4:53.76) to move her to #4 and #9 on the ULV all-time list.

Cortez followed suit with another two personal bests in the 800m (1:57.63) and 1500m (3:57.46), with his 1500m race ranking #5 on the Leo all-time performance list.

The rest of the Leopards followed, on a great San Diego day with personal bests, seasonal bests, and solid, consistent performances. Finn McClure ran a personal best in the 800m (1:58.58), and Zachary Reid ran a seasonal best and was the top DIII finisher in the 110m hurdles (14.67) as he pushes towards his 4th NCAA Championships appearance.

Hunter Bond (400m - 50.58), Diego Herrera (800m - 1:58.87, 1500m - 4:08.54), Harrison Brown (110HH - 15.86), and Isaac Stockton (800m - 1:59.33, 1500m - 4:07.88) all performed at a high level, just missing personal best performances.

"It was another good day for Leo track and field. Even with a smaller group travelling, we still put up several PR's. Consistency is the key to high-level performances and that is something we are doing well heading into April and the SCIAC Championships," said Kevin Reid, University of La Verne track and field head coach.

Next Meet

The Leopards will next be at the Bryan Clay Combined Events at Azusa Pacific University from April 10-11 and at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on April 12.
