LA VERNE, CA — The University of La Verne football team (1-0)  travels to Salem, OR to take on the Willamette Bearcats (1-1) on Saturday with kickoff set for 12 p.m. Coming off a dominant, season opening 30-3 victory, the Leopards look to continue the momentum into a week three clash up north.

LAST TIME OUT

La Verne took care of business in the first game of the season, defeating the Azusa Pacific Cougars by a 27 point margin. In that week one win, the Leopards dominated on the offensive side of the ball. The team rushed for 160 yards, including 93 from running back Tyler McCown. Quarterbacks Jordan Hernandez and Brian Rudden threw for 148 total yards and went 17 of 26.

On the other side of the ball, the Leopard defense did their thing allowing just 116 total yards. Trevon Kenney led the pass coverage with two picks, taking one back for a touchdown. Salvatore Felice had eight tackles with Chase Yanez picking up five.

THE MATCHUP

The Bearcats rely on their passing attack, with 80% of their offensive production coming through the air. La Verne will look to their strong secondary defenders such as Jomar Brown, Justin Mondini, Yanez, and Kenney. Willamette's defense allows 238 yards per game. In addition to McCown, contributions from receivers Noah Allen, Jimmy Rumsey, and Ronald Ropke will allow La Verne to take their offensive attack to the next level.

Overall, the Leopards are 1-4 against the Bearcats, with the lone victory coming in a 43-33 final in 2019.
