Reid, James Win Titles at SCIAC Championships

LOS ANGELES — Zachary Reid claimed his third SCIAC title, Terrell James won his first, and the University of La Verne track and field teams concluded at the 2025 SCIAC Track and Field Championships.

Reid put his stamp on the final SCIAC competition of his career. He flew past the field with a winning time of 14.54, nearly .4 seconds faster than the second-place finisher. The win marks Reid's second-straight title and third overall in his illustrious La Verne career. Reid set the La Verne program and SCIAC meet record last season with a time of 14.31. The senior was named the SCIAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week three times this season.

James, just a freshman, made a memorable SCIAC Championships debut. The first-year won the discus with a distance of 43.21m (141'9") on his second attempt of the day. James entered the meet ranked fifth in the event.

Peyton Carrera also finished on the podium for the Leopards. The junior took third in the women's 800m with a time of 2:18.87. Carrera got out fast and led through the first 400m. Down the final 100m stretch, she switched gears to hold on for the podium finish.

Hunter Bond finished fifth in the decathlon with 5,779 points and set personal records in six of the ten events.

Isaac Stockton finished in fifth place in the 800m run with a time of 1:55.52.

The Leopards had two point scorers in the 1500m run, with Fernando Cortez taking sixth (3:58.10) and Finn McClure following in seventh (3:58.11).

Gennessy Ortega took sixth in the long jump (5.20m, 1'-0.75") and Journee Jones finished eighth in the javelin (36.72m, 120'6").

LaVaughn Smooth ended eighth in the 100m dash, 11.15.

The Leopards men's squad finished in seventh place, and the women's squad took eighth.
