LOS ANGELES, CA – The University of La Verne men's and women's track and field team set a whopping 44 personal records and/or season bests at the SCIAC Quad Cup this past weekend.
"It was another solid day of heavy work for the Leopards," said University of La Verne Track and Field Head Coach
Kevin Reid. "We clicked off 27 PR's or SB's on the men's side and 17 PR's or SB's for the women."
Harrison Brown and
Towart Kahungu led the Leopards with individual wins. Brown outpaced the field by nearly a second in the 400m hurdles, finishing with a time of 56.28, the best mark in the SCIAC this season.
Kahungu led the Leopards in the field events with a win in the long jump. The sophomore posted a personal best distance of 21' 11.5" (6.69m), a top-three conference mark this year. Brown and Kahungu, along with
Jusiah Vinson, and
Parker Elam, ran legs on the 4x100m relay that finished second with a time of 43.78.
Eamon Wright earned a six second PR in the 1500m (4:11.02), while
Kaliah Ramirez cut two seconds off her 800m time (2:35.20).
CC Flaherty and
Mariah Huizar both contributed to the team efforts by pulling off impressive triples – competing in the 1500m, 5000m and 4x400m relay.
The Leopard will be running split squads the next two weeks. The endurance athletes will return to Occidental this Saturday, March 14 for the Oxy Distance Carnival and Spring Break Classic. The speed and power athletes will return to action on Friday, March 20 at the Redlands Invitational.
